“Rule 1: give every dollar a job” is the same in Everydollar, but Eveydollar allows you to predict how much money is going to come in that month. The remainder for the rules took some getting used to. The time I put in to learning how to use YNAB felt worth it because I was in a debt emergency and I needed to learn how to turn my life around.Įach of the 4 rules in YNAB took quite some time getting used to.

The 4 rules of YNAB are hard to fully grasp at first, and I spent hours reading YNABs articles, watching their videos, and taking their free online classes.
YNAB does take some time getting used to, but once you get the hang of things, it’s completely invaluable. It also never budgeted with what was currently in my bank accounts, so I did overdraft once using Mint because I didn’t realize a paycheck had come in late. It only showed me if I was over budget or under budget. I have used Mint in the past which never helped me. The cost of YNAB has been covered many times over by how much I’ve saved using it. I’ve used YNAB for over a year now, and it’s helped me completely turn around my finances, get out of debt, and begin to build savings.

BudgetWithBuckets - offline budgeting tool/app. V4 is still supported and is a desktop version. They have a new version that is 100% web-based now. YNAB (You Need A Budget) - fantastic tool for budgeting. Aligns with the Baby Steps completely and very easy to use. It's free (unless you want bank integration). - the official Dave Ramsey budgeting tool. For a list go here to see what is near your neck of the woods. It's a phenomenal program and highly recommended by all us here if you are serious about getting out of debt and learning more about the Baby Steps.Ĭlasses are held all year long all over the US. BS3: Grow your $1000 savings into 3-6 months of living expenses (fully-funded emergency fund). BS2: Pay off debts from smallest to largest using the debt snowball method. We tend to be a little more passionate in getting out of debt than some of the other subreddits.
